Every program the Clark Cawthra Coneybeare Foundation offers has been developed in consultation with the communities it serves. We don't design programs in boardrooms and impose them on neighbourhoods — we listen, learn, and co-create. Our four flagship programs reflect decades of accumulated wisdom about what truly moves the needle on community wellbeing in Toronto and Ontario.
Education is the single most powerful lever for social mobility, yet for too many Toronto youth, the cost of post-secondary education remains a prohibitive barrier. The Clark Cawthra Coneybeare Youth Education Bursary Program was established to change that reality — one student at a time.
We award both merit-based and needs-based bursaries annually to students accepted into or currently enrolled in accredited colleges, universities, and vocational training programs. Our bursaries range from $1,500 to $5,000 per academic year and may be renewed for up to four years, subject to satisfactory academic progress and continued financial need.
Bursary recipients also gain access to our mentorship network, connecting them with professionals and leaders across Toronto's business, arts, health, and public service sectors. This human capital investment often proves as valuable as the financial support itself.
Wellbeing is not simply the absence of illness — it is the presence of conditions that allow people to thrive physically, mentally, and socially. Our Community Wellness Initiatives operate from this holistic understanding, delivering a suite of programs that address the full spectrum of wellness needs for Torontonians of all ages and backgrounds.
Our mental health programming includes free and low-cost counselling referral services, community-based mental health literacy workshops, and peer support group facilitation across multiple Toronto neighbourhoods. We work closely with licensed health professionals and community health centres to ensure quality and appropriate professional oversight.
Our nutrition and food security programs partner with local food banks, community kitchens, and school nutrition programs to ensure that families have consistent access to healthy food and the knowledge to prepare it. Our monthly cooking workshops, offered in English, French, and several community languages, have become a beloved fixture in participating neighbourhoods.
Senior wellness is a particular focus. Our program provides companionship visits, technology literacy training for older adults, fall prevention workshops, and coordination of health navigation services — helping seniors remain active, connected, and independent for as long as possible.
Toronto is one of the most diverse cities on Earth, with over half of its residents having been born outside Canada. That remarkable diversity is a defining strength of our city — and the Clark Cawthra Coneybeare Foundation is committed to ensuring every newcomer can contribute to and benefit from all that Toronto has to offer.
Our Newcomer Integration Support program delivers a comprehensive suite of services designed to address the most significant barriers newcomers face in their first years in Canada. From language acquisition to employment readiness, from legal rights education to community connection, we walk alongside newcomers during one of the most significant transitions of their lives.
Our Language and Literacy Program offers free English and French language instruction at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, with childcare available during classes. Our Employment Readiness Workshops cover resume writing, interview skills, workplace culture in the Canadian context, and sector-specific job search strategies. Our Rights and Resources orientation sessions help newcomers understand their legal rights, access government services, and navigate Toronto's complex public systems.
Perhaps most importantly, our Community Connections Program pairs newcomers with established Toronto residents who volunteer as community guides — helping new arrivals find their footing socially and culturally in their new home.
Social isolation among older adults is a growing public health crisis — one that too often remains invisible until its effects become acute. The Clark Cawthra Coneybeare Senior Outreach Program was designed to proactively reach seniors in Toronto's west end and surrounding communities, bringing connection, support, and joy directly to where they live.
Our dedicated team of staff and trained volunteers conduct regular home visits for seniors who are homebound or mobility-limited, providing companionship, assistance with light tasks, and a consistent human presence that makes an extraordinary difference to quality of life. We also coordinate transportation to medical appointments, community events, and social gatherings for seniors without reliable access to transit.
Our weekly drop-in events at partnering community centres offer seniors a welcoming, barrier-free space to socialize, learn, create, and simply enjoy one another's company. Current activities include gentle movement classes, arts and crafts workshops, book clubs, and a popular technology literacy series that helps seniors connect with family members through video calling and stay safe online.
We also offer a telephone reassurance program for seniors who prefer to receive support remotely, connecting them with trained volunteers for regular, friendly check-in calls. For seniors whose needs exceed what our program can provide, we maintain strong referral relationships with healthcare providers, social services agencies, and other community organizations across the city.
